A Nigerian Army personnel has been arrested by the police in the Federal Capital Territory for attempting to sell a stolen vehicle. The arrest was reported by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert specializing in the Lake Chad region, in a post on his X handle on Sunday.
The suspect, Lance Corporal Yusuf Yunnusa, serves with the 82 Battalion in Rukuba, Plateau State. He was apprehended on April 19 at about 4:30 p.m. at Mamu Filling Station in Lambata, Kwali, following intelligence about an individual attempting to sell a Toyota Corolla without the necessary documents.
“The security personnel swiftly launched a surveillance operation that resulted in Yunnusa’s arrest. A Toyota Corolla LE, with registration number ABC 570 FJ and an ash-colored exterior, was recovered from the suspect,” Makama said. During questioning, Yunnusa admitted to stealing the car from its parking spot at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja on April 17, 2025, around midday.
Makama added that the suspect intended to sell the vehicle in Kwali but was caught by the police before completing the transaction. Yunnusa is currently in custody for further interrogation.
