Nigerian Government Flags Off Construction of 10 Million MMSCF/D CNG Mother Station in Akwa Ibom

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, has inaugurated the construction of a 10 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCF/D) Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Mother Station by Nsik Oil and Gas Limited in Esit Eket Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State.

During the groundbreaking ceremony in Uquo Isi Edoho, Esit Eket, the minister, representing President Bola Tinubu, highlighted that the mother station would not only benefit Nigeria’s gas value chain but also take a significant step in reducing dependence on petrol, cutting carbon emissions, and providing affordable energy to citizens.

He also noted that the Federal Government plans to release N400 billion within two months to support gas projects, in addition to the previously released N222 billion for the sector.

The minister urged contractors and entrepreneurs to ensure they meet the necessary standards and expertise before applying for gas-related projects. He further encouraged them to make the most of Nigeria’s natural resources.

He assured the public of the ministry’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for investment. “I have contacted relevant stakeholders to streamline regulatory processes, offer fiscal incentives, and ensure the timely completion of gas infrastructures,” he said.

The minister also emphasized that the project is a demonstration of the private sector’s partnership with the national agenda. “Government’s resolve to promote cleaner energy is unwavering,” he added. He further stated, “This project is not the issue of money, it is an issue of a peaceful environment, and the Federal Government is taking equity in this project. I thank him for citing this project in Esit Eket.”

Nsik Oil and Gas Limited’s Chairman/CEO, Mr. Nsikan Johnny, expressed gratitude to stakeholders, outlining the transformative effects the CNG Mother Station would have on sectors like transportation, industry, and domestic energy. He assured that the project would benefit the local community by creating jobs, empowering small businesses, and lowering energy costs.

“We envision a future where clean energy is no longer a constraint to growth and development but a catalyst for progress,” he stated.

Project Consultant Mr. Mkposong Asuquo shared that the station would operate with four reciprocating compressors, delivering CNG to customers through specialized tube trailers. The facility will serve several states, including Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Delta, Cross River, and parts of Abia.
