Hobnob News – Ilorin:
The city of Ilorin in Kwara State radiated with faith and celebration on Sunday as thousands of Christians joined believers across the globe to mark Palm Sunday — commemorating the triumphant entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem.
Worshippers carrying palm fronds and chanting hosanna songs filled major roads in vibrant processions that began at 8:45 a.m. from Saint Barnabas Cathedral, Sabo-Oke, and lasted over four hours. The faithful marched through routes including Muritala Road, Maraba, Amilegbe, Ipata, Opo-Malu, Emir’s Road, Taiwo Road, Unity Road, and the Post Office area before concluding back at the cathedral for final prayers and benediction.
Another group of worshippers from First Baptist Church, Surulere, took a different route via the State General Hospital and Upper Taiwo Road before merging with the main procession at Unity Junction, creating a powerful symbol of Christian unity.
During the celebration, Bishop Sunday Adewole, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Kwara State, delivered a heartfelt message, urging Nigerians to reflect Christ’s humility, promote peace, and embrace love. “Jesus chose a colt to enter Jerusalem in humility. As followers of Christ, we must walk in that same spirit, fostering peace and showing love to one another,” he said.
He also encouraged citizens to renew their dedication to spiritual growth and national development, emphasizing that now is the time to serve God sincerely and support the country’s progress.
CAN Vice Chairman, Pastor Ademola Popoola, highlighted Christ’s ultimate sacrifice, reminding the congregation of the importance of living a holy and humble life in response to God’s grace.
Deaconess Funke Olatunji echoed these sentiments, noting that emulating Christ’s humility is key to achieving unity and progress in the nation.
Delivering a goodwill message on behalf of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Reverend Timothy Oluwagbemiga Akangbe, the Special Adviser on Christian Religious Matters, called on Nigerians to support the government through prayers and cooperation. He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to alleviating citizens’ burdens and enhancing their well-being.
Reverend Father Ralph Ajewole of the Radio Kwara Christian Fellowship also advised Christians to shed negative habits and adopt lives defined by peace and transformation. “Let your life become a beacon of hope and change,” he said.
Other religious leaders, including Reverend Bolaji Akinyemi and Evangelist Timothy Opoola, joined the call for peace, love, and national harmony.
As the Palm Sunday message resonates across Nigeria, Ilorin’s spiritual observance stands as a testament to the enduring relevance of humility, unity, and love in the nation’s journey forward.
