Troops of Operation Fasan Yamma (OPFY) have recorded a major victory in the ongoing fight against banditry in the northwest, successfully neutralizing a notorious bandit kingpin known as Malam along with four of his gang members during a fierce offensive in the Kandamba-Faskari axis of Katsina State.
According to Hobnob News sources, the operation spanned over a week and saw sustained military pressure on the bandit strongholds, ultimately forcing the criminals to flee the area with various degrees of gunshot wounds. In their hasty retreat, the bandits were said to have buried their dead in shallow graves.
Military personnel later uncovered these graves and confirmed the identities of the slain terrorists, including Malam—one of the most wanted figures linked to years of terror across Sabuwa, Dandume, Funtua, and Faskari Local Government Areas.
Security officials described Malam’s elimination as a significant milestone in the ongoing counter-banditry campaign, noting that his demise has severely crippled one of the most violent cells operating in the region.
“The neutralization of Malam is a major morale booster for the troops and a turning point in our campaign to restore peace and order to Katsina State,” a military source told Hobnob News.
Operations under OPFY continue across affected areas, with security forces urging residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities as efforts intensify to rid the state of criminal elements.
