The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Command, has apprehended 22 individuals following a series of strategic raids targeting drug hotspots across the state. Hobnob News reports that the arrests were made during coordinated operations aimed at dismantling illicit drug networks and enhancing public safety.
According to a statement released on Friday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, the crackdown is part of a broader initiative led by the State Commander, Mr. Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, to curb drug-related activities in the region.
The operation, conducted on April 10, targeted notorious drug enclaves at Dan’agundi Construction Site, Gwangwazo Area, Farm Centre along Zaria Road, Tashar Rami, and Filin Idi. “These raids reflect our unwavering commitment to eradicating drug abuse and trafficking, which remain serious threats to the security and health of our communities,” Muhammad-Maigatari said.
Recovered items included significant quantities of illicit substances such as cannabis sativa, “suck and die,” rubber solution, as well as locally fabricated weapons.
The PRO noted that investigations are ongoing to identify the drug dealers among the suspects, who will face prosecution upon confirmation of their involvement. Meanwhile, individuals identified as drug users will be enrolled in the command’s Drug Demand Reduction Programme for counseling and rehabilitation.
“This integrated approach not only targets traffickers but also prioritizes the rehabilitation of users, reinforcing our commitment to public health and safety,” he added.
