FG, Edo Unite to Unravel Uromi Killings

Abuja/Benin City, Nigeria –

In a swift response to the tragic killings of hunters in Uromi, Edo State, the Federal Government and the Edo State Government have jointly established a fact-finding committee. This was announced by Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, during a meeting with a high-powered delegation from Kano State, led by Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, in Benin City on Thursday.

Governor Okpebholo conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s profound dismay over the incident, emphasizing the President’s unwavering commitment to the safety and security of all Nigerians. He stated, “This incident has opened our eyes. We are now ready to address national issues and improve life for everyone. The president is determined to get to the root of this. We want a lasting solution and justice for all those affected.”

He further disclosed that the joint committee aims to uncover the fundamental causes of the killings, assuring that the public will be kept abreast of the committee’s progress. Governor Okpebholo also reiterated Edo State’s welcoming nature, highlighting the long-standing commercial and industrial ties between Edo and Kano States.

Deputy Governor Gwarzo expressed his gratitude to Governor Okpebholo for his earlier support during the crisis and for his solidarity with the people of Kano. He formally presented the report from Kano State’s committee, which verified the details of the sixteen victims from five local government areas in Kano. “You assured us that justice will be served, and we believe you, Mr Governor. We seek a transparent process to ensure fairness and accountability,” Gwarzo affirmed.

Following the meeting, Governor Okpebholo and the Kano delegation visited Uromi to meet with members of the Hausa community affected by the tragic events. The joint effort underscores the commitment of both the federal and state governments to address the Uromi killings and ensure justice for the victims and their families.
