National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu has stated that Nigeria has seen over a 90 percent improvement in security under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Ribadu made this remark in Jos, Plateau State, following a meeting with Major General Folusho Oyinlola, the Commander of Operation Safe Haven, after gunmen attacked Bokkos community, killing hundreds of residents.
He emphasized that the Tinubu administration remains committed to ensuring peace and security across the country. Ribadu said, “In the last 1-year-ten-months, violent deaths have been reduced probably by over 90 percent in our country. We have the statistics, in 2022 and 2023 those who lost their lives as a result of extreme violence in the country has reduced.”
The NSA pointed out that numerous criminals have been apprehended and are undergoing investigations. He assured the public, “I can assure you that justice will be done, those who are found responsible will be prosecuted, we are doing it across the country.”
Ribadu highlighted that the government has successfully prosecuted nearly 2,000 terrorists, resulting in many convictions. “This Government has prosecuted close to 2,000 terrorists and we have got many convictions; we will not relent, we are serious, we are honest about what we are doing, we will do it to the best of our ability,” he affirmed.
He also commended the armed forces and other security agencies for their quick actions in maintaining peace and averting crises. Ribadu acknowledged the tough times the country is facing but reassured the public, saying, “The country is going through difficult times, but it is not going to be forever. President Bola Ahmad Tinubu is saying ‘enough is enough’, it has to stop, whatever it takes.”
The NSA promised that the government would continue its efforts to improve security, stating, “Whatever we have done to achieve relative improvements, we will do more, we will continue to do whatever it takes to ensure there is peace, (and) security so that our people will live a normal life.”
Ribadu also disputed the death toll reported in the media from the recent Bokkos attacks, clarifying, “certainly is not as much as what is out there.” He urged the media to verify and report accurate information, explaining, “Telling the truth helps us to go through this difficult period; it helps us to heal, it helps us to get back on track and live in peace and security.”
