LAGOS — The Lagos State Police Command has successfully uncovered and dismantled a baby factory in the Ijegun area, rescuing 10 victims and arresting three suspected operators.
At a press briefing on April 7, 2025, the spokesperson of the command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed that the illicit operation was exposed on April 5 following a crucial tip-off. Swift action by police operatives led to the arrest of the alleged ring leader, 35-year-old Mariam Vincent, alongside her accomplices, 23-year-old Orie Ruth and 18-year-old Ujunwa Ifeanyi.
The police rescue operation freed seven women and three children, including three minors aged seven, five, and two. The adult victims have been identified as Precious (24), Magdalene (25), Adaobi (23), Princess (22), Ifeanyi (25), and Amaka (26). The children rescued include Destiny (7), Miracle (5), and Success (2).
All rescued individuals are currently receiving proper care, with the authorities working closely to ensure their rehabilitation and protection.
During interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to abducting individuals from various locations across Lagos to fuel their baby trafficking enterprise. The investigation is ongoing, and charges are expected to be filed soon.
Updating the public on other operations over the past two weeks, SP Hundeyin disclosed that 39 individuals had been arrested for a range of offenses including murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, rape, child theft, vandalism, illegal firearm possession, and drug-related crimes.
In another development, two kidnapping victims were rescued by the Lagos State Police Command after a raid in the Igbe Alagemo community, Ijede, Ikorodu, on March 29, 2025.
The incident began on the night of March 26, when armed kidnappers invaded the residence of a 40-year-old man identified as Dare, killing his security dog before abducting him. The assailants also abducted a second victim, 25-year-old Rodiat, from a nearby house.
Responding to a distress call received around 9 p.m. on the night of the attack, police launched a joint operation with local stakeholders and the task force. After three days of intense tracking, the victims were rescued unhurt at approximately 11:56 p.m. on March 29 and safely reunited with their families.
According to the police, surveillance operations continue, and investigations are underway to apprehend the perpetrators behind these violent crimes.
