Former governors Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), former Senator Shehu Sani, and ex-presidential aide Reno Omokri are among prominent Nigerians being considered for ambassadorial appointments by the Federal Government.
According to findings by Hobnob News, the nominees are currently undergoing security screening as part of the vetting process before an official list is released. Their résumés have been submitted to the relevant security agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS), for background checks.
This development comes nearly a year after Nigeria recalled its ambassadors from foreign missions without replacements, raising concerns about the country’s diplomatic engagements.
While one nominee privately confirmed the appointment, others remained silent. A top Presidency source, speaking anonymously, stated: “They are undergoing security checks with the DSS. Once cleared, the list will be made public. The process is ongoing, and we expect the list to be ready before the end of the month.”
