The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has summoned the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, to the Force Intelligence Department in Abuja for questioning regarding a violent incident that occurred during the Eid-el-Fitr celebration in Kano.
The clash, which unfolded during the Sallah festivities, resulted in the tragic death of a vigilante member, Surajo Rabiu, and left another, Aminu Suleman, seriously injured. The unfortunate episode took place as the Emir’s entourage returned from the Kofar Mata Eid prayer ground, where they had performed the two-rakat Eid prayers.
According to a letter obtained by Hobnob News and signed by Commissioner of Police (OPS), CP Olajide Ibitoye, on behalf of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Department (FID), Emir Sanusi has been invited for an investigative meeting to provide clarification on the events that unfolded during the procession within his domain.
The letter states:
“I have the directives of the Inspector General of Police, through the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Department (FID), to invite you for an investigative meeting with regards to an incident that occurred during the Sallah celebration within your domain. In view of the above, you are hereby invited to the Force Intelligence Department, opposite Police Force Headquarters, Area 11, Abuja, by 1000hrs on Tuesday, April 8, 2025. Your availability is highly sought for a purposeful investigation.”
Meanwhile, the Kano State Police Command confirmed the arrest of one Usman Sagiru in connection with the fatal attack on the vigilante member. Injured vigilante Aminu Suleman was rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital in Kano for urgent medical care.
SP Abdullahi Haruna, spokesperson for the command, confirmed that the attack occurred as local guards were shielding the Emir’s convoy during its return from the prayer ground. An investigation is ongoing to unravel the full circumstances surrounding the violence.
