Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has delivered a scathing critique of President Bola Tinubu’s handling of Nigeria’s security crisis, describing it as a failed system that has allowed killings to become a routine tragedy across the country.
In a statement released on Friday via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Atiku expressed deep concern over the frequency and spread of violent attacks, noting that the situation under Tinubu’s leadership has deteriorated into a nationwide crisis.
“The failure of Bola Tinubu’s security architecture has now become an endemic nationwide phenomenon with repeated killings, more of which do not even make the headlines,” Atiku stated.
He lamented that many Nigerians are now becoming desensitised to reports of mass violence, particularly in regions like the Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, where recent attacks have left several people dead.
“Nigerians are now being forced to get used to such news of wanton killings, and I again offer my condolences to the bereaved communities of Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State and the affected families,” he added.
The former vice president reiterated his longstanding call for a comprehensive overhaul of the nation’s security structure, urging the Tinubu administration to urgently adopt a more effective approach to safeguarding lives and property.
“I wish to restate my counsel to the Tinubu-led FG to reconfigure its security architecture to meet the needs of protecting the lives and properties of our people,” Atiku said.
The statement comes amid growing public concern over the deteriorating state of security in various parts of Nigeria, with critics increasingly calling for reforms and accountability from the federal government.
