A police officer from Kaduna State, Hadaina Hussaini Dan-Taki, has threatened reprisals against southerners in northern Nigeria in response to the killing of 16 northerners in Uromi, Edo State.
On Tuesday, Dan-Taki posted on Facebook, swearing in the name of God, and declared that northerners in the north must take action against southerners. He further warned that southerners had forgotten their families were in the north, vowing that “within one week, the southerners shall see the result.”
His post quickly sparked widespread condemnation from social media users, many of whom criticized him for inflaming ethnic tensions, particularly due to his role as a police officer. Many also expressed concerns that his actions could escalate divisions, with some pointing out the significance of his police uniform in the controversial post.
Dan-Taki’s post read, “I swear to Almighty God, we must do something for you guys, have you forgotten all your brothers that are leaving here in the North make my word, after one week you shall see the result.”
Following the backlash, Dan-Taki restricted access to his page, limiting users’ ability to view his posts and comments.
