A violent conflict erupted among some youths, believed to be Fulanis, in the Katampe area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) during the ongoing Eid-el-Fitr celebrations. The clash, reportedly triggered by a dispute over a girlfriend, left two young men injured and hospitalized.
Counter-insurgency expert on the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, disclosed the incident in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating that the fight broke out around 7:30 p.m. and quickly escalated, causing panic among residents. Eyewitnesses reported that the warring youths freely used dangerous weapons, further intensifying the disturbance.
Upon receiving a distress call, police patrol teams were immediately deployed to the scene. Authorities managed to restore order, but the youths involved fled into a nearby bush.
The injured victims, identified as Isiaka Abubakar and Isiaka Mohammed from Ruga Katampe, were rushed to Jareal Hospital in Mpape for medical attention.
Makama also revealed that such violent clashes have become a recurring issue among Fulani youths in the area, particularly on the second day of major celebrations.
In response to the incident, the Sarkin Fulani and Ardo of the community have been summoned to a meeting with Fulani stakeholders scheduled for Tuesday, April 1, to address the issue and prevent future occurrences.
