In a dramatic series of raids across Nigeria, the Nigeria Police Force has delivered a decisive blow to organized crime. A nationwide crackdown targeting kidnapping, banditry, and illegal arms proliferation has seen the rescue of 21 abducted victims, the seizure of N4.8 million in ransom money along with arms and ammunition, and the arrest of six individuals implicated in heinous crimes.
The recent operations, conducted during the first quarter of 2025, underscore the force’s determination to dismantle criminal networks that pose a grave threat to national security. In Taraba State, police operatives attached to the State Command led a high-stakes mission on March 29, 2025, along the Takum/Mararaba road. Responding swiftly to a kidnapping in progress at Muji Town, security agencies engaged in a fierce gun battle that resulted in the rescue of 20 victims, the confiscation of abandoned vehicles, and the prompt medical treatment of two injured individuals.
In Kano State, an investigation launched on March 8, 2025, into the abduction of Dr. Muhammad Bello Yushau led to a series of tactical arrests. On March 18 and 19, members of the state’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad successfully apprehended Tukur Lawal, known as Maikudi, along with accomplices Ado Usman, Sanusi Surajo, Habiba Shuaibu, and Ummulkhairi Ibrahim. The operation yielded a locally made rifle and N4,840,000 in cash believed to be ransom money, while the victim was rescued unharmed and reunited with his family.
Additionally, the Special Tactical Squad (STS) acted on credible intelligence in Taraba State, arresting Kafinta Musa ‘m’ on charges of armed robbery, kidnapping, and illegal firearms possession. During the operation, an AK-49 rifle loaded with five live rounds was recovered. Authorities are continuing their investigations to apprehend the remaining members of Musa’s criminal syndicate.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, lauded the bravery and professionalism of the officers involved. “These operations are a testament to our unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives of Nigerian citizens and dismantling the networks that threaten our communities,” he stated. The police force continues to urge the public to cooperate by providing timely information to help in the fight against crime.
This robust response by the Nigeria Police Force highlights the critical role of joint efforts between law enforcement and the community in ensuring the safety and security of the nation.
