Edo Governor Pledges Justice and Compensation for Slain Hunters in Uromi

The Edo State governor, Monday Okpebholo, has promised full compensation to the families of the 16 hunters killed in Uromi.

Accompanied by Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and other dignitaries, Okpebholo visited Torankawa in Bunkure Local Government Area to offer condolences. He also pledged financial and food support for the bereaved families.

Expressing anger over the killings, Okpebholo assured villagers that the perpetrators would face justice. “We will ensure that justice is served on those responsible for this heinous act,” he declared.

Meanwhile, hundreds of family members and supporters staged a peaceful protest, carrying placards with messages such as “We demand justice for the killings of our people,” “Hunters are not criminals,” and “We demand the speedy dispensation of justice in this matter.”

Protesters blocked the road to Torankawa village, chanting their demands. Many hunters joined in, carrying their weapons.

Other placards read “Killings in the North must stop,” “Northerners are peace-loving citizens,” and “Justice must prevail.”

Some hunters, visibly enraged, chanted war songs and brandished weapons as the governor’s convoy passed, while local residents worked to keep the situation under control.
