Former Rivers State Head of Civil Service, Dr. George Nwaeke, has made explosive allegations against suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, claiming he ordered the bombing of the State House of Assembly complex in 2023 to block his impeachment.
Nwaeke, who recently resigned from his position, made the revelation during a press briefing on Friday. He alleged that Fubara directed his then-Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, to carry out the attack, even handing over a bag of money for the operation.
“I was there when Edison received the money for the operation. The House of Assembly Complex was deliberately destroyed under the governor’s instructions,” Nwaeke stated, challenging Fubara to an open confrontation where he promised to reveal more details.
He further claimed that another attempt was made to demolish the residential quarters of Assembly members, which was only stopped after public outcry from Rivers youths, elders, and National Assembly members.
Reacting to the accusations, Fubara dismissed them as baseless and politically motivated.
“The truth is that Dr. Nwaeke has been compromised. His claims are desperate attempts to discredit me and my administration,” Fubara stated, urging Nigerians to disregard the allegations.
The accusations and counterclaims have further deepened the political crisis in Rivers State, raising concerns about leadership, governance, and stability in the region.
