The General Manager, Benue State Environmental Sanitation Authority (BENSESA )Mrs NASHIMA JENNIFER DANIEL has conducted the students on excursion from Benue State University, Makurdi in the Department of Epidemiology and Community Health Services of the institute round the refuse dumpsites as well as the Integrated Waste Treatment Facility along Joseph Saawuan Tarkaa Federal University road in Makurdi.
Mrs Daniel while addressing the students of the state owned university, informed them that BENSESA is the only establishment of Benue State Government that’s saddled with the responsibility of collecting, transporting and disposing waste appropriately to designated places with the view of promoting public health to enhance safety living of the Benue residents.
She further announced to the students that with the election of Alia as the Governor of the state, he has given particular attention to the Environmental Sanitation sub-sector through the 22 units refuse Collection trucks that have refurbished alongside the renovation of the administrative block among other essential interventions.
Additionally, the Ministry of Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change has signed memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a private company in waste management for recycling of waste in the state where compensation has been paid along Makurdi -Gboko road at Abinsi as in no distant time, it shall commence operation with the view of turning the waste generated in the state to wealth.
She also disclosed that just a week ago, “I invited waste manager from Ghana -Zoom Lion, who were in the State on a feasibility study with a promise of returning to the state with its investment.” Again,l am still wooing other investors in waste management across the globe to come to the state,” Mrs Daniel added.
Earlier, the students were taken to the Authority ‘s dumpsites at NASME’ Barracks as well as Integrated Waste Treatment Facility plant both at North- Bank among other places visited.
Commenting on the excursion, the leader of the students, the lecturer, Dr. Igbede Robert as well as acting course Representative, Angela Oloja both thanked the management of the Authority describing the exercise as matching reality with theories to arrive at concrete learning.
