The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed further progress in the recall process of the Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, following the submission of additional contact details by the petitioners.
In a press release issued today, INEC stated that the petitioners’ representatives have now provided their contact address, phone numbers, and email addresses in a letter addressed to the Commission’s Chairman.
As required by the INEC Regulations and Guidelines for Recall 2024, a formal notification letter has been sent to the Senator sought to be recalled, informing her of the petition. Copies of the letter have also been sent to the presiding officer of the Senate and published on INEC’s website.
The next phase of the process involves the scrutiny of the petition’s signatories to confirm that it has been signed by more than half (over 50%) of the registered voters in Kogi Central Senatorial District. INEC has assured that this verification process will take place in the coming days, and the outcome will be made public to determine the next course of action.
INEC reiterated its commitment to ensuring a fair, open, and transparent process, urging Nigerians to remain patient as the recall procedure unfolds.
This latest development marks a significant step in what could lead to the first successful recall of a senator under the 2024 recall guidelines.
