Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has debunked rumors that he has an anointed candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
Addressing journalists in Lafia, the state capital, on Wednesday, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Affairs, Peter Ahemba, described the claims as baseless and aimed at tarnishing the governor’s reputation.
“We want to make it categorically clear that Governor Abdullahi Sule has no anointed candidate to succeed him in 2027. Any appointee supporting such a claim is a sign of insubordination. Governor Sule will not condone such acts henceforth,” Ahemba stated.
He urged the public to disregard politicians parading themselves as government-backed candidates, emphasizing that it is the people of Nasarawa State who will ultimately decide their next governor at the appropriate time. He also stressed that the governor remains focused on delivering the dividends of democracy, rather than being distracted by premature political campaigns.
“Governor Sule still has more than two years to provide good governance to the people. Why this distraction?” he queried.
Ahemba further reiterated that the ban on electioneering campaigns for the 2027 general election remains in place. He warned civil servants and government appointees against engaging in partisan politics, advising those interested in political activities to resign to avoid interfering with governance.
On security matters, he revealed that the state government has adopted a community-based strategy to strengthen collaboration between security agencies and grassroots leaders. This, he said, was aimed at fostering lasting peace across the 13 local government areas of the state.
He also called on traditional rulers, community leaders, and religious leaders to actively promote tolerance, forgiveness, and unity, ensuring a stable environment for economic growth and development.
