Hidden Crude Cache: NSCDC Unearths Illegal Reservoir in Ondo Forest

A clandestine crude oil operation has been exposed in Ondo State, as the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) uncovered an illegal reservoir hidden within a dense forest. Hobnob News reports on the joint operation that led to the discovery.

The Ondo State Command of the NSCDC, in a statement released by spokesperson DSC Daniel Aidamenbor, revealed that the illegal crude oil reservoir was located in Obe-Akingboye, within the Ilaje Local Government Area. The discovery was made on Sunday, March 23rd, 2025 at approximately 2:12 pm, following a collaborative operation involving the NSCDC, the Nigerian Army, and TANTITA Security Service.

Aidamenbor stated that the suspects involved in the illegal operation had fled the scene prior to the arrival of security personnel, resulting in no immediate arrests.

The Ondo State Commandant, Mr. Oluyemi Ibiloye, has issued a strong warning to individuals engaged in illicit dealings concerning petroleum products, urging them to cease their activities or face the full consequences of the law.

He further emphasized the NSCDC’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding critical national assets, particularly within the solid minerals sector. The discovery underscores the ongoing efforts to combat illegal activities that undermine the nation’s economy and security. Hobnob News will continue to monitor this developing story.
