Twelve Inmates Escape from Koton Karfe Prison in Early Morning Jailbreak

Twelve inmates awaiting trial have escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Koton Karfe, Kogi State, following a daring early morning jailbreak on Monday.

Sources at the National Headquarters of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) confirmed the incident, revealing that security agencies are in pursuit of the fleeing prisoners.

Confirming the development, the National Spokesman of the NCoS, Abubakar Umar, stated that two of the escapees had already been recaptured, while efforts were underway to apprehend the remaining ten.

“Two of the inmates in our custody at the Koton Karfe medium custodial centre have escaped. They are all awaiting trial, but as I speak to you now, two have been captured,” Umar said. “We are already working to capture the remaining inmates on the run.”

Umar further disclosed that an officer lost his life during the attack, though he did not provide details on the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Security agencies have launched a manhunt for the escaped prisoners, with all available search mechanisms deployed to ensure their swift recapture.

Authorities are urging members of the public to report any suspicious movements to the nearest security agency, as efforts intensify to restore order and prevent further security breaches.
