Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has strongly refuted allegations leveled against him by the Centre for Judicial Integrity (CJI), dismissing claims that he attempted to influence members of the judiciary. The governor’s office described these accusations as baseless and part of a politically motivated smear campaign orchestrated by disgruntled elements in Abuja.
In response to the allegations, the Benue State Government has challenged CJI and its backers to provide concrete evidence of their claims or face the consequences of their reckless accusations. The statement emphasized that Governor Alia has always upheld the judiciary’s independence and would never engage in any act that compromises its integrity.
“This latest smear campaign is nothing more than a desperate attempt to tarnish the image of a governor who is committed to justice and good governance. If the CJI and its sponsors have any proof, let them present it publicly,” the statement read.
The governor’s office also denounced recent calls for a state of emergency in Benue, labeling them as politically motivated and unnecessary. It accused “unscrupulous factions” of seeking to exploit the state’s progress for their selfish interests.
“There is no unrest in Benue State. Governor Alia is fully in control, providing effective governance and delivering results for the people. Those calling for a state of emergency are only exposing their desperation,” the statement asserted.
Governor Alia’s administration warned political detractors against destabilizing the state with falsehoods and unfounded accusations. It reassured the people of Benue that the government remains committed to transparency, accountability, and development.
“The people of Benue are not swayed by baseless propaganda. They are witnessing real transformation under Governor Alia’s leadership. His priority remains good governance, not political distractions,” the statement concluded.
Governor Alia reaffirmed his commitment to leading with integrity and ensuring that governance in Benue remains centered on the people, not political maneuvering.
