The Coalition for Democracy and Development (CDD) has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, to set aside their political differences and sign a new peace pact within the next 90 days.
In a statement signed by its Public Secretary, Dr. George Ifure, the CDD condemned both political leaders for the prolonged crisis in Rivers State, urging them to prioritize the welfare of the people. The group described the ongoing tensions as a “clear indication of leadership failure.”
“The CDD calls on Wike and Governor Fubara to put aside their differences and work towards signing a new peace pact within the next 90 days. We urge them to prioritize the interests of the people and find a lasting solution to the crisis,” the statement read.
The group warned that Nigerians would hold both leaders accountable if they failed to reach a resolution within the stipulated timeframe.
To facilitate peace, the CDD also called on President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly to establish a committee composed of eminent Nigerians who can mediate and ensure a lasting resolution to the crisis.
“We urge President Bola Tinubu to make history with the way he handles the Rivers State crisis. This is a pivotal moment that requires bold and visionary leadership. We implore him to focus on the welfare and interests of the Nigerian people, listen to their voices, and work towards a peaceful and democratic resolution,” the statement added.
The CDD further urged all stakeholders to embrace dialogue, emphasizing that a peaceful resolution is necessary to restore democratic governance in Rivers State.
