The Benue State Executive Council has approved ₦149.5 billion for key infrastructure projects aimed at boosting economic growth and improving the quality of life for residents.
The approvals were made during the 4th Executive Council meeting of 2025, held on Thursday, March 20, at the Government House, Makurdi.
Among the major allocations is an immediate payment of ₦1.57 billion to CGC, the Chinese company that constructed the Otobi/Otukpo and Katsina-Ala Water Works a decade ago. The council also directed the Ministry of Water Resources, Environment, and Climate Change to invite CGC to rehabilitate the facility and restore water supply to Otobi, Otukpo, and surrounding communities.
Key Infrastructure Projects Approved:
• Extension & Dualization of Wurukum-Airforce Base Road – ₦68.3 billion
• Aimed at improving transportation and economic activities
• Includes the construction of a 5-span bridge at Mu
• To be executed by M/S Bahaus Global Investment Nigeria Ltd.
• Upgrade of Mbawuar to Bako-Negher & Spur to Mbaakon Road – ₦73.9 billion
• Expected to enhance road safety and reduce travel time
• To be handled by M/S Bahaus Global Investment Nig. Ltd.
• Rehabilitation & Upgrade of the Deputy Governor’s Lodge – ₦1.1 billion
• Designed to provide a conducive environment for the deputy governor
• To be executed by Welltime Limited
• Reconstruction of the Assembly Complex & Clinic – ₦4.59 billion
• Will provide a modern legislative complex and clinic for lawmakers and staff
• To be managed by Gerewa Global Engineering Ltd.
In addition to these approvals, the council received confirmation from the Federal Government for the establishment of an Infectious Disease Control Centre in Vandeikya Local Government Area. The approval follows a request by Governor Hyacinth Alia, who has expressed concern over the rising cases of infectious diseases in the state.
Governor Alia reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, emphasizing that the projects will be executed efficiently and completed on schedule to drive economic progress in Benue.
