A police inspector, Ajele Oloyede, has reportedly died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at a ceramics company in Igbesa, Ogun State, where he was assigned as part of the security detail.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Thursday.
Omolola Odutola, the state police spokesperson, stated that an officer from Force Headquarters Annex, Lagos, Tolorunloju Stephen, discovered the scene after returning from Ikeja around 1:20 p.m.
Stephen reportedly saw Oloyede resting his head on a table inside the security office. When he inquired about his condition, Oloyede assured him that he was fine.
Odutola explained that Stephen then placed his bag and pistol on the table before stepping into the restroom. Moments later, a gunshot was heard.
Stephen allegedly returned to find Oloyede lying in a pool of blood.
“With the help of private security personnel, the wounded officer was immediately taken to Ota General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead by the doctor on duty,” Odutola said.
Police officers recovered the deceased’s pistol, and his body was deposited for autopsy. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran for further investigation.
