Senate President Godswill Akpabio, while criticizing Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s actions, made a personal appeal regarding the impact on women’s opportunities in politics. He expressed concern that her conduct might discourage politicians from appointing women to high-ranking positions.
Referring to his own family, Akpabio emphasized that the actions of one individual should not be used to punish others. “I have four daughters, and I want to plead with politicians to still give them and other women a chance. The sins of one should not be used to punish others,” he stated.
His remarks suggest a broader concern about gender representation in leadership and his hope that despite the controversy surrounding Akpoti-Uduaghan, opportunities for women—including his daughters—will not be diminished.
