Former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president, Amaju Pinnick, has failed in his attempt to retain his seat on the FIFA Council.
Pinnick did not secure enough votes to remain among the six African representatives on the council.
At the 14th CAF Extraordinary General Assembly in Cairo, Egypt, he received 28 votes—just one short of Mauritania’s Ahmed Yahya and Djibouti’s Souleiman Waberi, who claimed the final two spots.
The six elected African members for the FIFA Council are:
Faouzi Lekjaa (Morocco)
Ahmed Yahya (Mauritania)
Kanizat Ibrahim (Comoros)
Souleiman Waberi (Djibouti)
Hamidou Djibrilla (Niger)
Hani Abo Rida (Egypt)
Pinnick’s FIFA and NFF Tenure
Pinnick was the third Nigerian elected to the FIFA Council, following Oyo Orok Oyo and Amos Adamu. He won his seat in March 2021 during the 43rd CAF General Assembly in Rabat, Morocco. He previously served as NFF president from 2014 to 2022 before Ibrahim Gusau succeeded him.
FIFA Council and CAF Leadership
