NAFDAC Arrests Man for Producing Fake Alcohol in Unsanitary Conditions at Port Harcourt Market

The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has arrested a man, Anthony Chidi, at Mile 3 Market in Diobu, Port Harcourt, for producing fake alcoholic beverages under unhygienic conditions.

According to a statement from the agency, Chidi was found in a filthy shop washing used bottles of well-known alcohol brands and refilling them with unsafe drinks for resale. During the raid, NAFDAC officials seized dirty empty bottles, ethanol, bottle caps, and packaging materials.

The agency stated that Chidi confessed to operating the illegal business for about a year. He reportedly sourced labels from Aba and bought used bottles for reuse. “NAFDAC evacuated the shop, confiscating all items found on site for further investigation.”

Authorities have warned against consuming counterfeit alcohol, emphasizing its potential health risks and the agency’s commitment to cracking down on such illicit activities.
