The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) is making a strong push for regional stability, urging traditional rulers, youth leaders, and women to champion peace within their communities. Hobnob News reports on the NDDC’s initiative to foster a tranquil environment conducive to development.
NDDC Managing Director, Chief Samuel Ogbuku, made the appeal during a training session titled “Inclusive Approach to Conflict Management and Transformative Dispute Resolution,” held in Port Harcourt. The event, organized by the NDDC’s Department of Dispute and Conflict Resolution (DCR), aimed to equip community leaders with the skills necessary to maintain peace.
Ogbuku emphasized that the NDDC, as an interventionist agency, prioritizes peace in the oil-rich Niger Delta region. He stressed that without peace, development initiatives cannot flourish. “The region needs peace to develop,” Ogbuku stated, highlighting the crucial link between stability and progress.
Addressing the participants, who comprised mainly royal fathers, youth leaders, and women leaders, Ogbuku called for a stronger synergy among all stakeholders. He believes that collaborative efforts are essential to creating a harmonious environment where development can thrive.
The NDDC’s initiative underscores the importance of community-driven peacebuilding in the Niger Delta. By empowering local leaders with conflict management and dispute resolution skills, the commission hopes to create a ripple effect of peace throughout the region. Hobnob News will continue to monitor the impact of this initiative.
