A major blow has been dealt to electricity cable vandals in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as the Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC) has received recovered stolen cables from the FCT Police Command. Hobnob News reports on this significant victory against infrastructure sabotage.
The handover, facilitated by the FCT Police Command, marks a successful collaborative effort between security agencies and AEDC to protect critical power assets. The recovered cables represent a significant breakthrough in the fight against vandalism, which has been disrupting electricity supply in the region.
“The recovery follows coordinated security operations aimed at cracking down on vandalism and illegal activities that threaten electricity distribution across the FCT and its environs,” stated Adefisayo Akinsanya, Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, AEDC.
AEDC has commended the swift action of the police, emphasizing that such collaborative efforts are crucial in safeguarding national infrastructure and enhancing power reliability.
Engr. Chijioke Okwuokenye, Managing Director/CEO of AEDC, expressed deep appreciation to the security agencies for their relentless efforts. “We commend the FCT Police Command and other security operatives for their unwavering dedication in recovering these vandalized cables,” he said. “This successful operation serves as a powerful message that acts of sabotage will not go unpunished.”
He highlighted the severe consequences of vandalism, emphasizing that it is an attack on communities, depriving homes, businesses, and critical services of power. “Vandalism is not just a crime against AEDC—it is an attack on our communities, depriving homes, businesses, and critical services of power. AEDC will not relent in its fight against such criminal acts,” Engr. Okwuokenye affirmed.
He further urged collective action from all stakeholders, including community leaders and residents, to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. “Vandalism and power theft are not just crimes against AEDC; they are crimes against the progress of our nation,” he stated. “We will pursue every legal measure to bring perpetrators to justice.”
The recovery of the stolen cables underscores the importance of collaboration between security agencies and utility companies in protecting critical infrastructure.
