The Transparency Global Watch (TRAGWA), a non-governmental organisation said the embattled Benue Chief Judge(CJ), Justice Maurice Ikpampese was not worthy of being a judicial officer.
Its Executive Director, Ephraim Kov stated this on Monday in Makurdi that the embattled CJ has failed to conduct himself and lead the judiciary in a befitting manner.
Kov said it was their responsibility as the watchdogs of democracy to put the facts out for the public to judge if the CJ was truly fit to continue in office.
He said the press conference sought to detail some brazen acts of judicial misconduct and criminal malfeasance committed by the embattled CJ.
“Abuse of office by issuing a directive to overturn the Benue State Electoral Law passed by the Benue State House of Assembly and assented to by the Governor of the State.
“Misappropriation and mismanagement of the Budgetary Allocation and Finances of the Benue State Judiciary.
“Engagement with politicians and political office holders for favourable judicial outcomes.
“Indirect participation and incitement of the industrial actions against the State executive.
“Acts of bribery and corruption and undue favoritism and dire insistence on cronies holding unmerited positions.
6. Disobedience to valid court judgements
“Interference with Judicial cases before the high court. Granting of fraudulent judgements outside the prayers of litigants (the case of MTN vs BIRS).”he said
Kov it was worthy to note that beyond the bias and false narratives been spread on the matter, the above allegations were grave enough to justify the action of the State Assembly.
He said the House relied on section 292(a)ii of the 1999 constitution as amended to carry out their action.
