One Week, 35 Arrests: Lagos Police Tackle Robbery Surge

In a decisive move against rising traffic robberies, the Lagos State Police Command has apprehended 35 suspects in a series of coordinated operations across the Ajah to Elemoro axis within just one week. Hobnob News has obtained details of this significant law enforcement action, showcasing the police’s commitment to curbing criminal activity in the bustling metropolis.

CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, confirmed the arrests on Saturday, revealing that the suspects were apprehended during various tactical operations in the Ajah area. The arrests, occurring on February 24th, included Alao Oluwafemi, Adeshina Akinrinde, Udoh John, Afolabi Kola, Daniel Augustine, Olalekan Qudus, Shittu Lanre, and Azeez Olalekan.

The week-long operation also led to the arrest of Olayemi Moses, Oriyomi Ojo, Ismail Mubarak, Alabi Ibrahim, Bashir Umar, Nasiru Muhammed, Ashiru Sanni, Babalola Ibrahim, John James, Rafiu Yakubu, and Basit Azeez. Further arrests included Adebayo Oyebode, Oriyomi Williams, Sahabi Lawal, Benjamin Peter, Aanu Ayoade, Aminu Abubakar, Olayiwola James, Sahedu Abubakar, Taiwo Fawasi, Muhammed Monsuru, Abdullahi Ibrahim, Uche Achuoye, Samuel Olapade, El-Kamal Ibrahim, Hammed Taofeek, and Jamilu Usman.

Hundeyin explained that the arrests were executed by tactical teams stationed in Elemoro, which cover a wide area from Ajah, including Lekki Phase 1, down to Epe. “This was carried out by our tactical team stationed in Elemoro covering the Ajah axis, such as Lekki Phase 1 down to Epe. They carried out this operation,” he stated.

He further emphasized that similar tactical teams operate throughout the state, sharing the same mandate to apprehend violent criminals and ensure they face justice. “We have tactical teams in other parts of the state, and they also have the same to arrest violent criminals and make sure they are brought to book,” Hundeyin added.

When questioned about the strategies behind the high number of arrests within such a short period and the possibility of extending these operations to other crime-prone areas, CSP Hundeyin reiterated, “Every tactical team has the same mandate.”

Hobnob News has confirmed that all 35 suspects have been arraigned in court, signaling the commencement of legal proceedings. This swift and decisive action by the Lagos State Police Command underscores their commitment to maintaining law and order, and sends a strong message to criminals operating in the region.
