Abuja, Nigeria – The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has reaffirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will personally chair today’s National Caucus meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. This high-level gathering, a significant event in the party’s political calendar, is expected to deliberate on critical issues affecting the party’s structure and governance.
The confirmation was given by the National Secretary of the APC, Senator Ajibola Basiru, in an exclusive interview with Hobnob News, where he assured stakeholders of the President’s attendance.
“By the grace of God, the President will be there. He has already confirmed his attendance,” Basiru stated confidently.
There had been concerns that both the National Caucus meeting and the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday respectively, might face another postponement. However, Basiru dispelled such fears, insisting that the meetings would proceed as planned.
“No, nobody is postponing anything. The National Caucus and the NEC meetings will still be held on Tuesday and Wednesday as scheduled,” he reassured.
This announcement comes after last year’s indefinite suspension of similar meetings, which were originally slated for September 11 and 12, 2024. At the time, no official reason was provided for the postponement, although the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, had assured that a new date would be set. However, months passed with no rescheduling, prompting concerns within party ranks. Each time inquiries were made, members of the National Working Committee (NWC) vaguely promised that the meeting would be held “very soon.”
Nevertheless, a recently leaked internal memo signed by Basiru has now put those doubts to rest. According to the document, the National Caucus meeting will convene at the Presidential Villa’s Banquet Hall on February 25, 2025, at 6 p.m., while the NEC meeting will take place the following day at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
The statement reads, “Distinguished colleagues, kindly circulate the following to all party stakeholders in the states that the National Caucus of the party is scheduled to hold on Tuesday, 25 February 2025, at the Banquet of the Presidential Villa by 6 p.m.
“The National Executive Committee is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, 26 February 2025, at the National Secretariat of the Party. Best regards.”
The two high-stakes meetings will be presided over by President Tinubu and are expected to attract top political figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima and former President Muhammadu Buhari. Other notable attendees will include the APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje; Senate President, Dr. Godswill Akpabio; former Senate Presidents; past and serving APC governors; ex- and current Speakers of the House of Representatives; state party chairmen; and key stakeholders from the National Working Committee.
Significantly, this will mark Ganduje’s first NEC and Caucus meetings since assuming office as APC’s National Chairman. The meetings are expected to shape the party’s strategic direction in the coming months, especially as it gears up for upcoming electoral cycles and governance reforms.
Political analysts suggest that discussions may center around key national issues, party discipline, policy direction, and strategies for strengthening the APC’s influence at both state and national levels.
