In a concerted effort to curb the rising incidence of corrupt practices within the market sub-sector, the Benue State Office of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) joined forces with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Community Development Service (CDS) Group today to launch a sensitization campaign aimed at women in the popular railway market, Makurdi, Benue State.
The campaign, which was well-received by the market women, sought to raise awareness about the dangers of corruption and promote the importance of a corrupt-free society. In an effort to educate and empower the community, both organizations discussed ways in which corruption can be tackled and prevented within the local market environment.
A representative of the ICPC Mrs Mary Atabo emphasized that the market sector, being a vital part of the economy, is highly susceptible to corrupt practices, which undermine fairness and economic growth. They urged market women and other stakeholders to adopt transparent and honest practices in their daily transactions.
The NYSC CDS group, composed of corps members committed to community development, also took part in the initiative, distributing flyers and engaging with the women to encourage participation in building a more ethical marketplace.
The event marks another step in ongoing efforts by the ICPC to educate citizens and create awareness around corruption-related offenses in various sectors across the country.
Local leaders and community members have expressed their support for the campaign, noting its potential to foster greater accountability and trust within the market system in Makurdi.
