Ayet-to-be-confirmed number of individuals have been killed in a fresh attack on Anyiin community in Benue State, carried out by suspected armed herdsmen on Thursday night.
According to reports from a top source, the assailants stormed the village, leaving a trail of death and devastation. Suspected armed herdsmen came to Anyiin, Benue State, yesterday night to attack our people again. This attack claimed the lives of multiple villagers, and we are still recovering corpses in the bush till now.
The source further revealed that traditional rulers in the region are attempting to prevent the situation from escalating, though the full extent of the attack remains unclear.
The deadly assault comes just days after 16 farmers were ambushed and murdered on Monday while traveling along Kashimbila Road in the state. The farmers were returning to their community in Mbandwa ward when the gunmen attacked. Their bodies were later dumped in a river by the assailants.
Benue State has been plagued by a series of violent attacks in recent months, with at least 5,000 lives lost due to clashes with suspected herdsmen. The latest assault on Anyiin further deepens concerns about the ongoing security crisis in the region.
