In a significant repatriation operation, the Department for Combating Illegal Migration in Libya has deported 48 Nigerian women and two children back to their home country. This effort was made possible with the assistance of Nigeria’s consular services and support from the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The repatriation operation was carried out via Mitiga International Airport, ensuring the safe return of the migrants. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to assist Nigerian nationals facing hardship abroad, particularly in conflict-prone regions like Libya.
Migrant Rescue Watch shared the news on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, highlighting the collaborative effort between Libyan authorities, Nigerian consular services, and the IOM. This development comes after previous repatriation efforts, including the return of over 150 Nigerians, 112 stranded Nigerians, and 141 more Nigerians from Libya.
These ongoing efforts demonstrate the commitment to reuniting Nigerian migrants with their families and communities, while also addressing the complex issues surrounding irregular migration.
