NAF Airstrike Neutralizes Bandits, Thwarts Deadly Attack on PMF Base in Katsina

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully launched an airstrike to repel a coordinated attack by armed bandits on a Police Mobile Force (PMF) base in Zaka village, Katsina State. The operation, which took place on Saturday, February 15, 2025, resulted in the elimination of several terrorists and prevented further casualties among security personnel and local vigilantes. However, allegations of civilian casualties during the air raid have prompted the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, to order a thorough investigation into the incident.

Terrorists Launch Attack on Security Forces

The violent assault began when a group of heavily armed bandits stormed the PMF base in Zaka village, targeting security operatives and community vigilantes. In the course of the attack, two PMF officers and four vigilante members lost their lives. As the situation escalated, urgent reinforcements were called in, leading to the swift deployment of NAF air assets under Operation Fasan Yamma.

According to a statement released by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Vice Marshal Olusola Akinboyewa, NAF’s intervention was strategic and aimed at neutralizing the threat posed by the bandits.

“The Air Component of Operation Fasan Yamma (AC OFY) conducted a successful airstrike at Yauni Hill, Zakka Ward of Safana Local Government Area in Katsina State,” Akinboyewa stated. “This operation resulted in the neutralization of several bandits and helped to repel the onslaught against PMF and the Katsina State Community Watch Corps personnel.”

NAF’s Rapid Response and Air Interdiction

Upon receiving intelligence reports about the attack, NAF swiftly mobilized its strike aircraft to the affected area. The airstrikes effectively disrupted the bandits’ operations, preventing further casualties and safeguarding the security base. The precision strikes were aimed at key locations where the terrorists had gathered, eliminating multiple threats in the process.

However, in the aftermath of the operation, reports emerged from certain community members alleging that innocent civilians may have been caught in the airstrike. These claims have raised concerns about potential collateral damage, prompting immediate action from NAF leadership.

CAS Orders Investigation into Civilian Casualty Allegations

Responding to the allegations, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has directed a comprehensive investigation to ascertain the facts and ensure accountability.

“The NAF takes these concerns seriously and remains fully committed to uncovering the truth,” Akinboyewa emphasized. “Our operational ethos guarantees that we prioritize the well-being of the Nigerian people in all our military engagements.”

The statement further reassured the public that NAF remains dedicated to professionalism, transparency, and adherence to international best practices in military operations. While the investigation unfolds, citizens have been urged to remain calm and trust in the process, as NAF remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding national security and protecting innocent lives.

NAF’s Commitment to Security and Accountability

This latest offensive against banditry in Katsina underscores the Nigerian Air Force’s proactive approach to counterinsurgency operations. The successful interdiction of the terrorist group demonstrates the military’s unwavering resolve to combat criminal elements threatening national peace and stability.
