Enugu Police Commissioner, Command Embroiled in N62 Million Extortion Scandal

A damning allegations has rocked the Enugu State Police Command, with reports emerging that the Police Commissioner, Mr. Kanayo Uzuegbu, and his team extorted a whopping N62 million from a businessman, Mr. Olu Agwu, after labeling him a member of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

According to SaharaReporters, Agwu was coerced into paying the hefty sum into various accounts controlled by senior police officers, in a disturbing trend of targeting high-profile individuals for extortion.

The Enugu Police Command has issued a statement denying the allegations, calling them “unfounded”. However, more evidence has come to light, revealing the police commissioner’s direct involvement in the extortion scheme.

Receipts obtained by SaharaReporters show that N2 million was paid into an account associated with an investigating police officer named Emmanuel Ahamefuna, whose real name is reportedly Onyeisi from the Nsukka area of Enugu.

The Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC) has written to the Police Service Commission (PSC), demanding a comprehensive independent investigation into the allegations.

RULAAC’s Executive Director, Okechukwu Nwanguma, emphasized that the Nigeria Police Force cannot be a judge in its own case, and called for an exhaustive, independent, and impartial investigation into the actions of the officers involved.
