Edo State Internal Revenue Service Warns Unions Against Illegal Dues Collection

The Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS) has issued a warning to unions in the state to stop collecting dues and issuing tickets to members at unauthorized locations. According to Oladele Bankole-Balogun, Executive Chairman of the EIRS, this practice is unacceptable and prohibited.

The EIRS prohibits the collection of union dues at designated haulage fee collection points, aiming to streamline operations, enhance efficiency, and increase transparency in the haulage space. This decision also seeks to eliminate potential confusion and improve the efficiency of EIRS operations.

Bankole-Balogun emphasized that only EIRS revenue collectors are authorized to collect haulage fees through revenue scratch cards, ensuring that haulage fee points remain dedicated to their primary purpose. He urged unions to adopt alternative methods for collecting dues from their members, assuring that the government is committed to maintaining peace and orderliness in the state.

The EIRS has called on security agencies to assist in enforcing this directive and imposing sanctions on non-compliant unions. This move is part of the EIRS’s efforts to ensure efficient revenue collection and maintain order in the state’s revenue management system.
