Anambra Government Shuts Down Okija Shrine, Targets Fake Native Doctors

The Anambra State government has ramped up its efforts against fake native doctors and criminal activities by sealing off a shrine in Umuofor village, Okija, Ihiala Local Government Area.

The shrine, reportedly run by Ekene Igboegbueze, a self-acclaimed native doctor who claims to offer wealth to unsuspecting victims, was closed after numerous complaints from the local community.

Prince Ken Emeakai, Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Security, explained that the action was based on reports from residents.

“Igboegbueze’s business is illegal under Anambra State Homeland Security Laws,” Emeakai said, noting that properties linked to the unlawful business have also been confiscated.

“All items found in the shrine will undergo forensic examination, and the results will determine further government action,” he added.

Chinenye Ihenko, Director of Operations for Agunechemba Security Outfit, warned young people against patronizing fraudulent native doctors and pastors.

“The activities of fake spiritual leaders are fueling a get-rich-quick mentality in the state,” he said.

“Our mandate is to sanitize Anambra, and we are committed to that. Anything contributing to the desecration of the state or aiding criminal activities will be eradicated. That, we can assure the people.” He encouraged youths to pursue lawful ventures to stay on the right side of the law.
