NYSC Member Beaten to Death by Hoodlums in Plateau, Two Suspects Arrested

A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Safwan Fade, was fatally attacked by hoodlums in Pankshin Local Government Area, Plateau State.

Fade, who was serving at the Federal University of Education, Pankshin, was assaulted at a local stadium by a group of criminals. The Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, confirmed the incident at the Command headquarters in Jos on Tuesday.

Adesina reported that two suspects, Samuel Dang Kat and Zatshinen Wubwerwe, had been arrested in connection with the attack, which resulted in the corps member’s death. He also revealed that 24 individuals were arrested for various crimes.

Following a thorough investigation, the Commissioner assured the public that the culprits would face justice.

He stated, “On 23/01/25 at about 07:00am, we received a report from one Umbule Boreng Reuben of Pankshin LGA, who reported that on 22/01/25 at about 06:00pm, one Safwan Adamu Fade, an NYSC corps member serving at FCE Pankshin was reportedly beaten and severely injured by unknown hoodlums at the Pankshin township stadium.”

Upon receiving the report, Adesina immediately ordered the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Pankshin to lead a team to the scene. Officers quickly transported the victim to a hospital for medical care.

He continued, “The victim was treated and declared stable by the Medical Doctor on duty. The victim was later transferred to Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) as a result of some complications. The victim eventually died in the process.”

Investigations led to the identification and arrest of two suspects, Samuel Dang Kat and Zatshinen Wubwerwe. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects and ensure they face justice.

Adesina expressed gratitude to the public for their cooperation in tackling crime, acknowledging that their support has made law enforcement more effective.

He stated, “Within the period under review, the Plateau State Police Command had recorded some operational successes. Our aggressive onslaught against men of the underworld has led to the massive arrest of criminals and the recovery of arms and ammunition.”

Reiterating the police commitment to public safety, he praised the media for its role in informing and educating citizens on security efforts.

“The Command is poised to serve you better. The support of the media and the publicity given to Police activities has no doubt been tremendous. The Public are better informed and educated on the good intentions of the police towards them and the need to form a strong alliance against the men of the underworld.”

He commended law-abiding citizens, journalists, and officers for their efforts in maintaining security in the state.
