NNPP Crisis: Agbo Major Insists Rabiu Kwankwaso Faction Remains Expelled

by Christian Asema

The National Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Agbo Major, has reaffirmed that the Rabiu Kwankwaso faction remains expelled from the party. This comes after the Kwankwaso faction rejected the party’s national convention held on Tuesday, which led to Major’s election as the new National Chairman.

Major, addressing a press conference in Abuja on Saturday, stated that the convention was legal and backed by a recent court judgment. He cited the Abia High Court judgment, which compelled the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to hand over the party to its Board of Trustees, led by Dr. Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam.

The Kwankwaso faction had earlier described Major’s faction as a “renegade group” and insisted that Dr. Ajuji Ahmed remains the only recognized National Chairman of the party.

Major highlighted the key decisions made at the convention, including the ratification of the expulsion of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and the Kwankwassiya group from the party. He also mentioned the review of the party’s finances, rejection of the purported new logo, and approval to revert to the old logo.

The NNPP chairman urged the remaining members of the Kwankwassiya group to peacefully exit the party and find alternative affiliations. With the factional crisis ongoing, it remains to be seen how the party will navigate this challenging period.
