Hyderabad Police Seize 1,300 Grams of ‘Ecstasy’ in Major Drug Bust

The Hyderabad City Police, in collaboration with the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) and local police units, apprehended three foreign nationals involved in drug-related offenses. Among them were a Nigerian drug supplier, a Guinean fugitive, and another Nigerian national residing in India without a valid visa.

In the first case, authorities arrested a Nigerian citizen, Oliver Ugochukwu, also known as Johnson, John, or Emji, aged 44. Originally from Imo State, Nigeria, he was living in Nallasopara, Mumbai. The Langer Houz Police and H-NEW, acting on reliable intelligence, seized 1,300 grams of MDMA worth ₹1.60 crore along with a mobile phone from his possession.

According to the police, “Investigations revealed that Oliver entered India on a business visa in 2009 and after failing to sustain himself through legal means, got involved in drug peddling.” Despite the expiration of his visa in 2009 and his passport in 2013, he remained in India illegally. He was previously arrested in 2013 by the Delhi police for heroin possession and sentenced to six years in prison. After his release, he moved to Mumbai and resumed drug trafficking, sourcing MDMA from another Nigerian national in Delhi and distributing it across Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Bangalore. He was caught in Hyderabad while awaiting instructions for a drug delivery.

In a separate incident, another Nigerian national, Ikechukwu Sylvester Mbah, alias Sylvester, aged 40, was detained for living in India without a valid visa. He arrived in Mumbai in 2012 on a business visa and initially worked in the clothing trade. However, he was later arrested by the Taloja Police in Navi Mumbai in 2019 for violations under the Passport Act. After serving two years in Central Prison, Navi Mumbai, he took refuge among other Nigerian nationals involved in drug trafficking, although he denied direct involvement.

While in Hyderabad to meet individuals associated with the drug trade, he was taken into custody in the Humayun Nagar police jurisdiction. Following legal procedures, authorities are deporting him back to Nigeria.

In a third case, H-NEW and Humayun Nagar police arrested a 38-year-old Guinean national, Moussa Camara, also known as Romeo, who had been evading authorities in a narcotics-related case.

Camara arrived in India on a medical visa in 2020 but was arrested at Mumbai International Airport for smuggling cocaine. He served six months in Arthur Road Jail before establishing connections with Nigerian drug suppliers in Mumbai. Later, he moved to Bangalore, where he actively engaged in drug trafficking. Seeking to expand operations, he traveled to Hyderabad to build a new consumer network but was arrested at Paramount Hills, Tolichowki.

A mobile phone linked to his drug transactions was seized. According to police investigations, Camara used a ‘dead drop’ method for drug deliveries, leaving narcotics at specific locations and sharing details with buyers while receiving payments digitally.

The police continue to crack down on foreign nationals involved in narcotics distribution, ensuring legal action and deportation where necessary.
