US-Based Nigerian Cardiologist Commits Suicide After Losing Child Support Case

A 36-year-old United States-based Nigerian cardiologist, Dr. Ikenna Erinne, has reportedly taken his own life after losing a child support case to his ex-wife. The incident occurred on Sunday, January 26.

According to reports, Dr. Erinne had been embroiled in a prolonged divorce battle with his estranged wife, including a custody dispute over their children. A US court ultimately ruled in favor of his ex-wife, ordering Dr. Erinne to pay $15,000 in monthly child support.

Confirming the incident, Nigerian-American Clayton Udo stated that the court’s verdict had a severe financial toll on Dr. Erinne, leading to his tragic death. Udo described the case as an example of the systemic issues within the US legal system that disproportionately affect African men.

Dr. Erinne’s funeral is scheduled to be held on Monday, February 3, 2025, at Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home in Elkridge, Maryland. He is survived by his children, parents, and siblings.
