A Magistrate Court in Ilesa, Osun State, has ordered Rhoda Adu to pay ₦150,000 in damages for failing to visit her boyfriend, Olapitan Sola, after receiving ₦3,000 for transportation.
According to reports, Ms. Rhoda received the transport fare from Mr. Olapitan but switched off her phone and failed to show up. Mr. Olapitan, feeling defrauded and emotionally distressed, reported the incident to the Ayeso Police Station.
The court, presided over by Magistrate Akogun Oludare, ruled that Ms. Adu must refund the ₦3,000 transport fare, pay ₦100,000 for breaching their agreement, and an additional ₦50,000 as special damages for causing Mr. Olapitan emotional distress.
The court’s decision was intended to serve as a deterrent to others from committing similar offenses. This ruling has sparked a range of reactions, with some praising the court’s decision as a step towards promoting accountability and respect in relationships.
