Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft, has opened up about his divorce from his ex-wife Melinda, describing it as the “mistake I most regret.” In a candid interview with The Times of London, Gates reflected on their 27-year marriage, which ended in 2021.
Gates, 69, expressed his initial aspiration to replicate his parents’ 45-year marriage, but acknowledged that he and Melinda had different dynamics. He praised Melinda’s dedication to their children and noted that despite their divorce, they have maintained a harmonious co-parenting relationship.
The billionaire philanthropist also touched on the challenges of working with Melinda at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation after their separation. Gates admitted that he was disappointed when Melinda decided to leave the foundation.
Gates’ comments come after Melinda spoke publicly about her healing journey post-divorce, describing it as “unbelievably painful” but also a transformative experience. Despite the difficulties, both Gates and Melinda have expressed commitment to their philanthropic work and co-parenting their adult children.
