Benue SUBEB Boss Collaborates with UNICEF to Boost Education Sector

In a significant move to enhance the education sector in Benue State, the Executive Chairman of the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Grace Adagba, has collaborated with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). This partnership aims to implement cutting-edge technology for the Teacher Information Management System and centralized examinations.

During a courtesy visit to the SUBEB headquarters in Makurdi, Dr. Adagba welcomed the UNICEF Chief of Enugu Field Office, Dr. Shamina Sharmin, and her team. The Executive Chairman acknowledged UNICEF’s invaluable contributions to education and child development in Benue State.

Dr. Adagba announced the introduction of a centralized Examination System in all Basic Schools, designed to enhance learning outcomes. Additionally, the Board is reviewing its 2025 Action Plan to incorporate craft into the curriculum, equipping learners with sustainable and profit-driven skills.

The Executive Chairman praised the Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, for his unwavering commitment to Basic Education. She also thanked UNICEF for its support in training teachers and providing essential resources, such as iPads, routers, and power banks, to enhance teaching and learning.

Dr. Adagba expressed the Board’s eagerness to collaborate further with UNICEF on the Teacher Management Information System (TMIS) and the provision of Early Childhood Care Development and Education (ECCDE) play materials.

In her address, Dr. Sharmin commended Dr. Adagba’s transformative leadership and the Governor’s efforts to improve basic education. She emphasized the global focus on Early Childhood Development (ECD) as the foundation of learning and development.

The visit included a tour of the SUBEB Digital Resource Centre, showcasing the Board’s readiness to implement UNICEF innovations. Other UNICEF team members present included Dr. Agatha Nzeribe, UNICEF Education Specialist; Dr. Ifeyinwa Anyanyo, UNICEF Health Specialist; and Dr. Ngulum Emmanuel, UNICEF Desk Officer, Ministry of Education.
