Sani Murtala, the brother-in-law of Katsina State Assembly member representing Sabuwa LGA, Alhaji Ibrahim Danjuma Machika, tragically passed away after being struck by a stray bullet. The incident occurred in Machika town during a condolence visit by Governor Dikko Umar Radda. The governor had visited the area to express sympathy to the family of the late father of Assembly member Machika.
Reports indicate that officers from the Community Watch Corps, part of the governor’s security detail, began firing shots into the air during the visit. Unfortunately, one of these stray bullets struck Murtala, who had been quietly seated nearby, along with several others. Murtala sustained severe injuries and succumbed to them, while the other victims are currently receiving medical treatment. This tragic event has raised concerns about the safety measures surrounding official visits, particularly the use of firearms during such sensitive occasions. The loss of Murtala has deeply affected the family, and the local community is left in shock over the unfortunate circumstances of his death.
