The Nigerian Police have secured a remand order and are now searching for Reno Omokri, a social media influencer and former special assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on New Media, over alleged defamation of Dunamis Church Pastor, Paul Enenche.
The police aim to remand Omokri in custody, alongside Pastor Abraham Daniel and the Enenche brothers—Enenche Idoga Alexander and Oboyinlo Enenche Peter—following a court ruling.
The Nigeria Police Force obtained the remand order from the Chief Magistrate Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Wuse Zone 6, Abuja.
The court granted the request, filed on January 13, 2025, by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. This order follows a motion seeking to remand Omokri and others pending investigation into allegations of defamation. The police are instructed to bring the respondents, including Omokri, to court on January 30, 2025.
The Chief Magistrate, His Worship Emmanuel A. Iyanna, approved the application after considering submissions from Francis Gabriel, Esq., representing the Inspector General of Police.
In his ruling, Iyanna ordered the detention of the four respondents—Mr. Daniel Abraham, Mr. Enenche Idoga Alexander, Mr. Oboyinlo Enenche Peter, and Mr. Reno Omokri—in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service while the investigation continues. The court also directed that after the investigation, the respondents should be formally arraigned in a competent court.
The case arose after a petition by Patrick O. Okolo, SAN, accusing Reno Omokri, the Gistlover Blog, Aunty Adul, Peter Obonyiro, Kelechi TV, and others involved, of defaming Pastor Paul Enenche and Dunamis Church. The petition led to the charges and subsequent remand order, which is a part of ongoing investigations into the matter.
The court scheduled the next hearing for January 30, 2025, where the police are expected to produce the accused individuals. The investigation centers on the allegations of defamation raised by the petitioners, with further legal proceedings expected following the investigation’s conclusion. The order reflects the serious nature of the charges and the intention of the Nigerian authorities to follow legal protocols in addressing the case.
