The Kwara State High Court in Ilorin, presided over by Justices Haleema Saleeman and Mahmud Abdulgafar, has convicted and sentenced six individuals for fraud-related offences, including internet fraud and impersonation.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) announced the convictions on its official X account, @officialEFCC, on Saturday.
The Convicted Individuals
The six individuals convicted are:
- Akingbehin Temitope Oluwaseyi
- Ajayi Elijah Olaoluwa
- Samson Babatunde Ilesanmi
- Quadri Olamilekan Lamidi
- Kolawole Kehinde Moses
- Olatunji Elijah Olabisi
The EFCC prosecuted the individuals through its Ilorin Zonal Directorate on various charges, including retention of proceeds of criminal activities, impersonation, cheating, and internet fraud.
Court Proceedings and Sentences
Akingbehin Temitope Oluwaseyi
- Charges: Retaining N2,707,562 in proceeds from criminal activities.
- Sentence: One-year imprisonment on two counts, or fines of N1 million and N707,562, respectively.
- Forfeitures: Two phones and a Toyota Camry car (2009 model).
Ajayi Elijah Olaoluwa
- Sentence: One-year imprisonment or a fine of N500,000.
- Forfeitures: iPhone 13 Pro Max and $410.
Samson Babatunde Ilesanmi (a.k.a Angela Sara Maya)
- Charges: Impersonating Angela Sara Maya and defrauding Larry Guerrero of $250 via Facebook Messenger.
- Sentence: Four months imprisonment or a fine of N250,000.
- Forfeitures: $150 and two phones.
Quadri Olamilekan Lamidi
- Sentence:
- Count One: Four months imprisonment or a fine of N150,000.
- Count Two: Three months imprisonment or a fine of N100,000.
- Count Three: Two months imprisonment or a fine of N50,000.
- Forfeitures: €325, $150 Canadian dollars, and two phones.
EFCC’s Commitment
The EFCC, represented by prosecuting counsel Sesan Ola and Andrew Akoja, provided substantial evidence against the accused, including extra-judicial statements and items recovered during arrests. The court ruled that the cases had been proven beyond reasonable doubt.
